On the Formation of Accretion-powered Galactic and Extra-galactic Outflows
نویسنده
چکیده
Though widely observed to be emanating from a variety of astrophysical sources, the underlying physical mechanism behind the formation of galactic and extragalactic outflows is still enshrouded in a veil of mystery. In addition, it has not been possible to calculate accurately the amount of matter expelled in these events. In this article we present a non-self-similar analytical model, which, for the first time, we believe is able to explain the outflow formation phenomenon as well as compute the mass outflow rate by simultaneously solving the equations governing the exact transonic accretion and outflow. Our model predicts the dependence of this rate on various flow parameters as well as the exact location from where the outflows are launched.

Extra-planar Diffuse Hot Gas Around Normal Disk Galaxies
I review results from Chandra observations of nearby normal edge-on galaxies (Sd to Sa types). These galaxies have a broad range of star formation rate, but none of them is dominated by a nuclear starburst. The galaxies are all in directions of low Galactic foreground absorption (NHI ∼ < 4 × 10 cm). Extra-Planar diffuse soft X-ray emission is detected unambiguously from all the galaxies, except...
متن کاملModelling the Origin of Astrophysical Jets from Galactic and Extra-galactic Sources A New Approach to Combine the Accretion-Wind Topologies
Though widely observed to be emanatig out from a variety of galactic and extra-galactic sources, the underlying physical mechanism behind the formation of the cosmic jets and outflows are wrapped around by the veil of mistry till date. Neither the amount of matter contained in these jets could accurately be calculated by any definitive method as well. In this paper we present a theoretical mode...
متن کاملEffect of the temperature profile of the accretion disk on the structure of jets and outflows around protostars
Magnetic fields play an important role in creating, driving, and in the evolution of outflows and jets from protostars and accretion disks. On the other hand, the temperature profile of the accretion disks may also affect the structure of the magnetic field and outflows. In this paper, we use the self-similar method in cylindrical coordinates to investigate the effect of the temperature profile...
متن کاملStellar and quasar feedback in concert: effects on AGN accretion, obscuration, and outflows
We study the interaction of feedback from active galactic nuclei (AGN) and a multiphase interstellar medium (ISM), in simulations including explicit stellar feedback, multiphase cooling, accretion-disc winds, and Compton heating. We examine radii ∼0.1–100 pc around a black hole (BH), where the accretion rate on to the BH is determined and where AGN-powered winds and radiation couple to the ISM....
متن کاملHIGH LATITUDE GAMMA RAYS ASSOCIATED WITH VIRGO
A more detailed analysis is made of the energy spectrum of the diffuse component of extragalactic gamma rays over the range of 0.3- 10 GeV, obtained fromthe EGRET instrument at the Compton Gamma Ray Observatory. The derived excess energy spectrum of high galactic latitude, b > 60°, using intercept method shows that it is correlated with Virgo cluster (over lsr) and average Virgo intensity i...
